Why are self-esteem, body image and body shape so important.

We have all probably heard the term self-esteem on a talk show or from a magazine but what does it really mean ? It involves how much a person values herself and appreciates her own worth. It is often mentioned in terms of appearance, or body image and body shape. We tend to relate self-esteem to body image and body shape for several reasons. Firstly, most people care about how other people see them. Unfortunately, many people judge others by things like the clothes they wear, their hairstyle or if they are overweight. If a fuller figure woman feels like she looks different than others her self image may be affected negatively and she will suffer from a low self esteem.

Check out your own self-esteem. If you have a positive body image you probably like the way you look, are happy with your own body shape and accept yourself the way you are, a full figured beauty. This is a healthy attitude that will give you confidence in everything you do and provide a positive, purpose driven lifestyle. A positive, optimistic attitude will help build self esteem. Knowing what makes you happy and how to meet the challenges of life can make you feel capable, strong and in control of your life. Having a positive outlook and a healthy lifestyle are great combinations for developing positive self esteem.

Boost your self-esteem and body image. Some fuller figured women may think they need to change how they look or act to feel good about themselves. But if you can train yourself to reprogram the way you look at your body, you can defend yourself from negative comments - both those that come from others and those that come from yourself. When others criticise your body it's usually because they are insecure about changes happening to themselves. The first thing to do is to recognise that your body is your own no matter what size, body shape or colour it comes in. It is no one's business but your own what your body is like but ultimately you have to accept it and be happy with yourself.

When seeking to build self-esteem and positive body image it is also important to recognise that there will be things about you that you cannot change - such as your height and shoe size. You should accept these things about yourself. But if there are things about yourself that you do want to change, make goals for yourself and plan the changes. You may, for example, want to dress to suit your body shape or need some simple tips on how to lose weight. Accomplishing the goals you set yourself can help to improve and build your self esteem.

In this image sensitive world we live in it is very important for us fuller figured women to regard ourselves highly and have a positive self-esteem. Our body image will then reflect our inner confidence and beauty which when matched with a body shape dressed to stun will complete our look good-feel good factor. So, if you hear yourself saying, or thinking, negative things about yourself ... Stop ! Constant negative thoughts will drive your esteem downwards. Reject the thoughts before they take a hold. Think of only positive affirmations, those that give you pleasure, try giving yourself three compliments every day. These can be anything from a job well done at work, when you did a favour or helped someone, an exam you passed, or a holiday experience you really enjoyed.
