21 tips to build self-esteem and positive body image for full figured women.

Tip 1. We need to make a start point for these tips to be effective so you must start by clearing your mind of negative clutter. A spring clean of all your negative thoughts and throw them out. For some this will not be easy but it is a vital first step for building positive self-esteem and body image. Control your negative thoughts and if they start to creep back into your mind make a conscious effort to switch them off by thinking of something that is more pleasurable.

Tip 2. Never use your weight to measure your self worth. Weight is just a number on the scales. Self worth is the sum of everything that makes you special and unique. Your talents, skills, accomplishments, how you treat people, how you treat yourself, your contributions to family, friends and the community these are how you measure true self worth.

Tip 3. Be thankful for what you have got and where you are. It may not seem relevant but if you have friends, family, a home, a job, clothes to wear, food to eat, then you are already rich and fortunate as there are many people who do not have these things.

Tip 4. We all make mistakes at one time or another but for the most part we do things right. A mistake does not make us a total failure it just shows that we are human. So do not get hung up on the mistakes. Remember the sayings; to err is only human; learn by your mistakes; someone who never made a mistake never made anything !

Tip 5. You will not be starting from rock bottom in building your self-esteem so think of this as adding to the good things you already possess.

Tip 6. Fuller figured ladies strut your stuff ! Show the world your talents don't hide them away, make the best of what you do well.

Tip 7. Be happy with your body shape, after all it is the only one you've got. It is quite adaptable too, you can enhance it with the right clothes, it will take you for a walk, do exercise or dance, make love or go shopping ! All these things you can do no matter what your body shape.

Tip 8. Fuller figured women need to educate themselves on the issues of body size and weight. What research tells us and what people think are two entirely different things. Have a look at my pages on Ideal Weight and Our Body Image for more suggestions on these issues.

Tip 9. Be more aware of what is going on in the world than on dieting. Do not occupy your life with endless dieting, weighing, counting calories and agonizing over what best to eat. Of course a healthy eating lifestyle is what we all strive for but do not let it rule you night and day .. enjoy life.

Tip 10. Have the confidence to do those things in life that you have been putting off. Don't use the excuses of needing to lose more weight or what will people think etc ... just get out there and do it !

Tip 11. Buy clothes now to suit your body shape. Don't wait until you have lost " a few more pounds", and do not buy clothes to a size or tag number choose them to suit your size. The right size reflects our proportions and the right features compliment our figures. Have a look at my pages on plus size fashion and body shape for help with this tip.

Tip 12. Fuller figured women remember, we are natural beauties who defy the constant mantra in magazines and the media that we should all be thin. We are happy and content with our shape and recognise that variety is the spice of life so Vive la difference !

Tip 13. Surround yourself with positive, supportive people. Tell the weight critics that your size and body shape are no longer on the discussion agenda. Eliminate the negative people from your life they are bad for your self-esteem.

Tip 14. Remember back to those occasions of low esteem, especially when you were a child. You will discover that your body image and self worth were shaped by other people and influences. You are now an adult full figured beauty with more information to better shape you feelings. Have confidence and shape your own positive body image.

Tip 15. Take a step at a time, do not rush this process. Building positive self-esteem does not happen over night. Weight acceptance or weight loss should be part of a longer term healthy lifestyle in order to be sustained. Quick gains for instant impacts rarely last so take your time in building your self-esteem.

Tip 16. Look to develop a healthier lifestyle for yourself, perhaps by eating healthier with a little light, but regular exercise. This will trim pounds anyway without you being too obsessive about weight loss. A healthier lifestyle also brings many more benefits which will help build your positive body image.

Tip 17. We are aiming to build a positive mental attitude which is important for good self-esteem. Feeling positive about yourself will reflect in your attitude to others and they will inevitably reflect this back to you.

Tip 18. A positive attitude is your best accessory so take it with you wherever you go.

Tip 19. Don't let society get you down with it's obsession with thinness and dieting. Society is not always right about things especially when the media, advertisers and businesses are pushing their own aims to make money, in what they think we should have ! Be bold enough to act for yourself.

Tip 20. Remember, in the final analysis it is the size of your heart that counts not the size of your body.

Tip 21. Finally, I pass you a compliment and a big thank you for your positive commitment to the reading of my tips.
